The Way 2/6/24 Jesus came for the life of the world

John 6:44 NASB95

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day.

John 6:33-35,37,39-40 NASB95

For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.” [34] Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.” [35] Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst. [37] All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. [39] This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. [40] For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”

Between John 6:27 and 58, the word life (Zoe) is used 14 times, and the phrase “eternal life” is laced throughout those verses. This section of Scripture is all about Jesus coming that we might, through him, participate in the life of God, which, of course, gives life not just to the world but to each of us in the private world that we each live in. God sent Christ not to deal with the sin issue. Instead, He sent Christ to deal with the sin issue that we might have life, a life that satisfies every hunger and thirst. Jesus said in John 10:10 that He came that we might have life and life more abundant. Can you imagine what your day would be like tomorrow if, from the moment you put your feet on the floor until you closed your eyes to go to sleep tomorrow night, you participated in the life of God in everything that you did? Jesus came as the bread of life to share the life of God with us because, in our participating in His life, He participates in hours. No matter where you are or what you are doing, God wants you to enjoy the mutual participation of you in Him and Him in you through Christ.

What amazes me is that the Father so longed for us to enjoy all that God is and all that God has that He drew us to Jesus. He did not even leave it up to us to move in His direction. The word “draw” in verse 44 carries the idea “to drag” something or someone. God loves you so much that he drug you from the clutches of the enemy of our souls. He loved us too much to trust us to come up with the idea on our own. Does each person have to make the final decision to say yes? Of course, we do, but it was His grace alone that brought us to the point of decision. He chose us so that we would be able to choose Him.

The other thing that I wanted you to notice is that Jesus says twice that those the Father drew to Him, He will not cast out or lose. This isn’t just about “eternal security;” it’s about the fact that now you that belong to Jesus, He is not going to give up on you fully experiencing the life of God that you have been grafted into. You weren’t grafted through Christ into the life of God to live in a kind of perpetual spiritual testing and probation. Jesus came for the life of the world, and He tenaciously never gives up on our continually experiencing a daily, even moment-by-moment, fresh infusion of the eternal life of the triune God. God is consumed with a passion to see us whole and free – fully alive. He will never give up on you enjoying all that He enjoys.  By the way, for those of you who struggle with your “eternal security,” if you are in Christ you can’t go to hell because He can’t.
