When Jehoshaphat became king it says about him in 2 Chronicles 17:6, “his heart soared in the ways of the Lord and again removed the high places and the Asherim from Judah.” I love that description of him, and have made that a personal prayer and quest; that my heart would soar in the ways of God, that I would long with great passion to know and participate in God’s ways.
To have a heart that soars in God’s ways is to be taken with a desire to understand His heart, His personality, His longings, His dreams, His passions, His desires, and therefore His tendencies. I so long for this so that I always do those things that are pleasing to Him. I don’t always do that, but it has become my embedded longing.
In that same verse it say that Jehoshaphat removed all the places of idolatry and false worship that were fascinating the hearts of the people. Trying to pull down the idols in our hearts and life will never be successful until first your heart soars in knowing and living in the ways of God. Once your heart soars it becomes so much easier to confront all the lesser loves in our lives that have captured our passions at some level.
Join me in praying that the Holy Spirit would cause your heart to soar.
