Song 2:3 “Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest,
So is my beloved among the young men.
In his shade I took great delight and sat down,
And his fruit was sweet to my taste.
Song 2:4 “He has brought me to his banquet hall,
And his banner over me is love.
As I already mentioned, the last part of verse 3 has a couple of meanings. As we saw earlier, the phrase “In His shade I took great delight and sat down, and His fruit was sweet to my taste,” speaks of an emerging lovesick believer who in falling in love with Jesus, and longs to spend more and more of their time in her Beloved’s presence , Beholding His beauty and hearing His voice.
These words also speak of the soul rest that comes to the one who has discovered how they are loved by Jesus. 1John says that perfect live casts out fear. To increasing realize how much He loves us, and how He delights in loving us, brings great peace. Being confident in love causes us to sit down, on the inside, resting under the constant banner of His amazing grace, because if He loves us so much that we’ve become His favorite, then we realize that there is nothing He want take care of, that concerns our lives. Favorites always get preferential treatment. As the One who sits on the Throne, and rules the nations, we can rest knowing that not only can He care for me, but because He loves me with perfect love, HE WILL. That’s why the scripture says for us to cast our cares upon Him because He cares for us, and His caring heart for us is so massive that the One who cares so much for us will also certainly take care of us.
