2 Peter 1:4 ESV
by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
2 Peter 1:4 TPT
As a result of this, he has given you magnificent promises that are beyond all price, so that through the power of these tremendous promises you can experience partnership with the divine nature, by which you have escaped the corrupt desires that are of the world.
Only Christians can escape the corruption that is in this world, because only Christians partake of the divine nature. No matter how much you try and are sincerely determined to not be affected by the corrupting power of sin, you will never be able to successfully and sustainably restrain. It is not by willpower, even sincere religious willpower that we walk in freedom from sin’s reign. It is only because of Christ. If you put a piece of lead on top of the water in a lake the lead will sink to the bottom, but if you tape that piece of lead to the top of the lifejacket and then set the lifejacket on top of the water it will float because it is partaking of the ability of the lifejacket to float. The divine nature of Christ that we as Christians are in union with is the lifejacket, but if we to choose to not utterly depend on Him at any moment then spiritually we will sink. Victorious Christianity is not a formula or confession; it’s a person.
