S.S. 4:12, “A garden locked is my sister, my bride, A rock garden locked, a spring sealed up.
Solomon refers to the lovesick maiden as a garden and closed, or locked. He says that she’s a rock garden locked, a spring sealed up.
The purpose of a Kings Garden is first for private pleasure, and secondly for the public to enjoy. The fact that it is an enclosed garden means that it exists first and foremost for the Kings pleasure and rest. It’s a place set apart uniquely for him. It’s a place where he can abide and find joy in. He is saying about her what she would declare about herself in the song of Solomon 8:10, “I am my beloved’s, and His desire is for me.” Revelation 4:11 says, “Worthy art Thou, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for Thou didst create all things and for Thy pleasure they are created.”
What a powerful statement that is; that we were uniquely created for His pleasure. That means therefore only in giving Him pleasure will we find true purpose and satisfaction in life. Understanding that affects every decision that I make and every reaction that I give to life as it comes at me. To live for his pleasure changes everything about the way I see life, and how I approach life on a daily basis. It changes the way approach life on a daily basis, and how I allow life o affect me as it comes to me. It affects the way I plan my life about the future. It dominates every goal and everything I pray. It becomes the great grid through through which we live.
