Song 4:4 “Your neck is like the tower of David,
Built with rows of stones
On which are hung a thousand shields,
All the round shields of the mighty men.
Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
Our surrendered will is our greatest defense against the enemy in our daily walk. Eph. 6 says faith is our shield, and this verse in S.S. tells us that the shields of faith are hung on the towers of yielded hearts. The “neck” in the Song of Solomon speak of the “will,” and a surrendered will, bowed, before God is like a strong tower of defense before satan. You see without a yielded will, and an obedient heart, all the faith in the world can’t resist the wiles of the devil in the daily battles. Only when we are walking with God, abiding in His presence, does the Armor of God help us. The Amos passage above says that you and I can’t walk with God, or abide in His presence if there are known areas of our lives that are not in agreement with Him and His will. As a matter of fact, John 14:23 says, that God will make His abode (resting place) in a life that is loving Him through surrender and obedience. One of the emerging virtues of a lovesick heart that’s beginning to grow in maturity is a “steadfast heart.” Ps.57:7. Feelings come and go, but a steadfast heart; a chosen yielded-ness, and obedience, creates a strong tower in our hearts where shields of faith can hang, ready for use in times of assault.
