One Thing 5/18/21 Christ WHO IS OUR LIFE

Colossians 3:3-4 NASB95

For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. [4] When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

I love the way the Passion Translation (paraphrase) puts verse 4, “And as Christ himself is seen for who he really is, who you really are will also be revealed, for you are now one with him in his glory!”

Paul did not say that Christ was his great passion, or that Christ was the great love of his life, or that Christ meant more to him than anything else, though I am sure that all those things were true. What Paul said was, “Christ who is our life.” Let that sink in; Christ is your life. All that He is and all that he has in union with all that makes up my my person is at the heart of my identity. Christ IS ALL and is in all. As a believer, when I think about my life, I should never do that apart from thinking through the grid Christ being my life. I can’t explain who I am to somebody without explaining who Christ is and what Christ is capable of doing. The best way for me to explain who I am as this new creation, this new self, is to say, “I am crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ who lives in me and the life which I now live I live by the faith of the Son of God…” I get to live by what He believes He can accomplish through me. I am not an independent self trying to serve Christ. Instead, Christ, Himself is living His life in and through me in service to God. That’s what Paul meant when he said that “we have died and our life is hidden with Christ, IN GOD.” Because Christ is now my life, I am now participating in the relationship He lives before and for God. This is extraordinary!

The other thing that verse 4 says that when Christ who is my life is revealed, I’ll be revealed with him in glory. In other words, Christ is revealed by me and I (the true self) am revealed by Him, living in an atmosphere of glory. Only when you discover who He is (your life), we truly discover who you are, for in Him we live, and move, and have our being.
