One Thing 3/31/15

Song 4:3 “Your lips are like a scarlet thread,

And your mouth is lovely.

Your temples are like a slice of a pomegranate

Behind your veil.

Again, the Hebrew word that’s translated “lovely” in verse 3 means “fitting, or that which fits.” One of the emerging virtues of a Lovesick Christian is just the holy discipline to not speak, and when you do speak, to be able to speak Spirit led words that are fitting, full of life and wisdom. Have you ever come away from a conversation with one or more people, and wished that you hadn’t talked so much, or that you would have said fitting things that carried the anointing of the Holy Spirit. Let your imagination take you into conversations Jesus might have had with people around a camp fire, or in a home. We have records of slices of conversations in the gospels, but what about all the other times conversations must have taken place. Imagine the nature of those words He might have spoken. I believe those moments were full of laughter and joy, sometimes sober, but always full of life, hope, love, and faith. He didn’t over talk everybody, just to get attention, and His words never carried fear, criticism, or unbelief. May we grow like the Shulamite and have redeemed lips, that know when to be silent, and a “lovely” mouth that speaks timely, fitting words of grace, faith, and life.
