Song of Solomon 2:10-14
10 My beloved speaks and says to me:
“Arise, my love, my beautiful one,
and come away,
11 for behold, the winter is past;
the rain is over and gone.
12 The flowers appear on the earth,
the time of singing[a] has come,
and the voice of the turtledove
is heard in our land.
13 The fig tree ripens its figs,
and the vines are in blossom;
they give forth fragrance.
Arise, my love, my beautiful one,
and come away.
14 O my dove, in the clefts of the rock,
in the crannies of the cliff,
let me see your face,
let me hear your voice,
for your voice is sweet,
and your presence is lovely.
God is looking for an Abiding Place; a Dwelling Place. Isaiah 66 says that He is looking for a house, yet not a house made by human hands; Yet, “the Most High does not live in houses made by human hands, as the prophet says,” Acts 7:48. He asks the question, “Where is My resting place.” As a Believer, you can be sure that He lives in you, but are you a resting place for Him. Are you a dwelling place where He can settle down in, and unpack all that He has and is, releasing His affections. He has deep affection for all of us, but has He found an environment in you where His affections and favor can be released, or is He still having to constantly contend with your unyielded self will. That last line in S.S. 2:14 uses an interesting Hebrew word. The word “lovely” is literally translated “habitation, abode, home, or fitting house.” You see our presence, our surrendered lives of volunteer adoration is where He wants to dwell. He is looking, and I mean really looking and searching (therefore it is up to us to simply say yes) for a dwelling place where His presence, glory , and power can be on full display. God always gives us fresh language about this love we are called into, so that our longing stays fresh and fully awakened. My hearts cry now has new words added to a holy vocabulary learned in The Secret Place. I find myself constantly crying out now, “God make me, us, a Dwelling Place; a Resting Place for You.”
