Song 6:5 “Turn your eyes away from me,
For they have confused me;
Metaphorically, ‘eyes’ in Song of Solomon speak of adoration. In the S.S. to have “Doves Eye’s” is to have undistracted devotion. A Mourning Dove will only have one mate in its lifetime, and when one dies, the surviving mate will mourn, and stay loyal the rest of its life. The Lord Jesus is looking for those who have sealed their hearts for love, and who live holding a torch in their hearts for Him alone. 2Cor. 11:2 “For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin. 2Cor. 11:3 But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.”
The word “confused” in verse 5 is a Hebrew word for “boisterous, and violent storm.” It can also mean “to take someone, or something by storm.” Think about that; whenever we look to Him in adoration, worship, or affection, even for just a moment, we take His heart by storm. That’s how much He loves us, and longs for our returned affection. Jesus said in John 4 , that The Father is looking for True Worsippers. He is searching for an Eternal Bride for His Son who will love Him intensely, exclusively, with hilariously joyful sacrifice. May we be That One who quenches His thirst for love.
