One Thing 11/12/14

Song 2:15  “Catch the foxes for us,
The little foxes that are ruining the vineyards,
While our vineyards are in blossom.”
Song 2:16  “My beloved is mine, and I am his;
He pastures his flock among the lilies.
Song 2:17 “Until the cool of the day when the shadows flee away,
Turn, my beloved, and be like a gazelle
Or a young stag on the mountains of Bether.”

“My beloved is mine, and I am his.”
What an amazing confession this is. He has just warned the Shulamite about the “Little foxes,” admonishing her to catch them, (those little sins that become a springboard that can ruin our experience of Him) and her response is to confess the most important reality. She confesses that she is confident in love. No matter what; even when she does fall into sin, He is hers and forever will be, and she knows that she has given her heart to Him, and she genuinely loves Him, and she knows that He knows she does. This is so important because all of us from time to time (sometimes hourly, when the battle is intense) have to acknowledge and catch the little foxes. In those moments of acknowledging, and confessing our sins we have to be confident in love. If in failure we aren’t confident in His love for us, and our love for Him, we won’t complete our repentance in faith, because we won’t be sure that the offer of Fulness in Christ is still on. Guilt, shame, frustration, and self rejection will keep us from believing that He is still excited about us, wants us like He did before.
