From Friday 10/10/17 Daily office
Matthew 14:13—14 Now when Jesus heard about John, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
In my office I have a quote, that I’m not sure where it came from, that says:
Miracles are fruit flowing out of intimacy with Christ.
In our desire to see people healed and set free, it is easy to pursue the gifts and not the giver. In this passage, perhaps we can learn from Jesus to work on true intimacy with Christ. In this time of loss, he withdrew to commune with God but when he returned, he had great compassion that moved him to perform miracles.
From this place of intimacy our hearts begin to be filled with compassion, and compassion releases all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit for His people. So if we want to see more Miracles, let us pursue deeper intimacy with Christ.
