Song 2:6 “Let his left hand be under my head
And his right hand embrace me.”
Hands speak of the work, activity, and thus blessing of God. The loving activity of God involves those things we can see and understand, also those things that we can’t see, and therefore don’t always understand.
His right hand that embraces us, are those things that are obvious expressions of His activity and favor in our lives. We can see them. They embrace us, and are easy to praise Him for. God’s goodness in our lives is often obvious, and are direct answers to heart desires. When we can observe His right hand of power and favor it’s so easy to trust, and praise Him, but it’s His left hand at work in our lives that is actually holding us up. His left hand is under our heads therefore we can’t see it because it is out of view. This is His hidden work behind the scenes in our lives that are constantly protecting us, and keeping us moving along in His perfect purposes. He spares us from all forms of troubles that we are never even aware of. He withholds, restrains, and releases to both bless, and protect us. This is His sovereign reign at work in things that are never aware of, or in things that disappoint us and leave us confused. Notice His left hand is under our heads. Warfare happens between our two ears, in the mind. Our minds torment us when things hurt and disappoint us, or when we aren’t sure about what’s going on, or how they will turn out. I don’t know about you, but I hate not knowing what’s going on, especially in some conflict or trouble. Somehow I think if I can just know what to expect then I want be as afraid. The truth is, my head (mind) can rest in the knowledge that He never slumbers or sleeps, and that whatever is going on He’s got it, dealing with in infinite brilliance and love.
It’s is awesome to wake up everyday trusting Him to reveal His right hand of power and favor, but it is also so comforting to know that He’s got our back, and is a shield that surrounds us. Let us praise Him constantly, and rest His hidden work daily in our lives, and His hidden work of wisdom and love when the things we see don’t make sense. It is enough to know that it makes sense to Him, and that He, the one who has proven His love, is Lord.
