One Thing 1/31/23 Adopted in the Sonship of Christ

Galatians 4:4-7 AMPC
But when the proper time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born subject to [the regulations of] the Law, [5] To purchase the freedom of (to ransom, to redeem, to atone for) those who were subject to the Law, that we might be adopted and have sonship conferred upon us [and be recognized as God’s sons]. [6] And because you [really] are [His] sons, God has sent the [Holy] Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, Abba (Father)! Father! [7] Therefore, you are no longer a slave (bond servant) but a son; and if a son, then [it follows that you are] an heir by the aid of God, through Christ.

Jesus doesn’t just ask us to view His sonship relationship with the Father and try to model, or imitate it. Instead, he has stepped into our humanity and grafted us into his sonship relationship with the father. His special relationship with the father is our special relationship with the father. As far as intimacy is concerned, it is impossible to be more intimate. As far as all the treasures of the father’s favor is concerned, they are as much ours as they are Christ’s. We are co-heirs with Christ because we are in union with Christ and his sonship. Again, His intimacy with the father is our intimacy with the father, and his inheritance is our inheritance, and his inheritance according to John 16 is all that belongs to the father. “We have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” Ephesians 1:3. Only one person (Jesus) possesses every single spiritual blessing, but because we are grafted into his sonship all of those spiritual blessings belong to us too. Sonship involves two things; intimacy and favor, and because we are in union with Christ,, his intimacy and his favor with God is ours. No wonder it’s called GOSPEL!
