In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been writing the devotionals everyday from the Song of Solomon. Even though I’ve often done devotionals from the Song, I decided to back up and start from the beginning and go through the book. I’ll of course, be using the Song as a spring board to see things from all over the Bible. I’ve been studying and teaching from the Song for about 35 years, and it has become a passion for me, and it reveals in the language of poetry the theme and purpose of our creation and redemption in Christ. Jesus died and rose again to restore us to God’s original intent, that we would be a Lovesick Dwelling Place for His presence and glory to be on full display, thus revealing His likeness. To extravagantly love Him with all we are in mutual affection, and to carry His presence in such a way that He is allowed to live His life in us and through us is what what we are reaching for. Why the Song of Solomon? I believe it gives us deeper insight into this redemptive purpose than any other book in the Bible. Other than the Cross, God is more transparent, in unashamedly revealing His lovesick heart for us in this book than anywhere else. We can only love because He first loves us. I also hope to stir up hearts to fall in love with this amazing part of Holy Scripture. It has radically changed my life over the years. I nestle up to His heart in a unique way when I contemplate His beauty as it us revealed in the Song. Finally, I’ve been chased over the years, and now chased down by The Holy Spirit to write some books. There is no way to express how hard I’ve tried to avoid this. Well, this is where I start. These devotionals from the Song will become one or two daily deviously books. This is the most practical way for me to jump into this book writing adventure. Keep me and those who help in your prayers.
Also, even though I’ve listed the same verses from chapter one for the last week or so, don’t glance at the word and think I’m just posting the same word again and again. Each day has a fresh piece of the picture added. The first four verses are the most important because they set the stage for understanding the whole Song, and thus God’s “Kind Intentions” for us. There will be about a months long devotionals flowing out of 1:1-4.
From time to time I might break out of the Song to share something, but my intent is to focus on truths that have there springboard in the Song, which I believe will cover the whole council of God as it’s revealed in all of scripture.
By the way, there will be an actual devotional coming out later today.
Take me away with You Jesus; let us run.
