One Thing 5/30/14

1 The Song of Songs, which is Solomon’s.
2 “May he kiss me with the kisses of his mouth!
For your love is better than wine.
3 “Your oils have a pleasing fragrance,
Your name is like purified oil;
Therefore the maidens love you.
4 “Draw me after you and let us run together!
The king has brought me into his chambers.”
“We will rejoice in you and be glad;
We will extol your love more than wine.
Rightly do they love you.”

“Take me away with you; let us hurry.” To come to the place where this is your sincere prayer, then you’ve come to desire Christlikeness. Not an imitation of Christ, but a participation in His very life. This is what He has prepared for us, and is our true destiny. Ephesians 4 says that spiritual maturity is “the fullness of Christ.” Rom.8:28-30, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He alsopredestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.” Look at the purpose we are all called to; to be conformed to the image of Jesus. To love Him with all of your heart, and to be like Him as He lives His life in and through us is the life we want Him to take us away to. Listen to the tone of the Shullamite when she says “let us hurry.” There is a desperation to her desire. Jesus said “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” God wants to be wanted,and desperation is one of the prerequisites of the heart that God always responds to. The question is, do you want it all. You already have it all in Christ, but do you want to experience it all in your emotions, and practical daily life. She doesn’t just want to go there, she wants to run to that place. Readiness is an important spiritual principle, and that’s not about just about being prepared, it’s about eagerness, and desperate longing. Do you want it that bad? He wants it that bad for you. He was so desperate for you to have it all, that He performed a desperate act for you on the Cross, to prepare the way for you. As a matter of fact, the Song ends in 8:14 with the Shullamite still crying out “Hurry my Beloved.” May God make us hungry and thirsty with a holy longing that won’t let go until He blesses us.
