Servant Series Part 8 Servant Rest
Then the young woman ran and told her mother’s household about these things. Genesis 24:28
And he [Laban] said, “Come in, blessed of the Lord! Why do you stand outside, since I have prepared the house, and a place for the camels?” Genesis 24:31
When I read verse 31, it jumped off the page, and I couldn’t go further. The question he asked echoes in my mind. “Why do you stand outside…?” There was a place of rest and refreshment already prepared for the servant and his camels; all he had to do was come inside.
Most of us are familiar with Jesus’ promise in John 14:2, “In My Father’s house are many rooms; if that were not so, I would have told you, because I am going there to prepare a place for you.” But we don’t just have a place prepared for us when we die; we also have a place prepared for us right now in Christ. .
So back to the question, “Why do you stand outside, since I have prepared the house, and a place for the camels?” Why do I stand on the outside when God had prepared “the house” for me and a place for my load as well? When I feel “left out” or “on the outside” in any way or just burdened by the things of life, the truth is God beckons me into a place prepared to minister to my every need, relieve my burdens, and direct me on every path I need to travel. I have a place of rest and refreshment available to me all the time as I go about my daily life.
If you find yourself in a burdensome place today, listen. Can you hear Him calling you? “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28).” That is not just an invitation, it’s a promise, and it’s for you right now.
