Servant Series Part 7 Servant Abiding

Today I’m sharing a personal example that I hope encourages you to look for, in your own life, what we have been learning from Abraham’s servant’s life the last couple of days.

In part 6, I quoted Psalm 3:5-6, 5Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” This is probably a familiar passage for most of us but be sure not to miss the last part of verse six; “He will make your paths straight.” Why do I point that out? If you, like me, are a servant of God serving others, you most assuredly have many things to do, and many times it doesn’t appear there is a straight path, if there is a visible path at all. It’s imperative that we learn to lean into the Lord, stay connected, and operate in His wisdom like Abraham’s servant did.

Recently, I started my week with an unusually large number of things that needed to be accomplished in a short period of time, and, humanly speaking, I didn’t know how all of it would get done. One of the things needing immediate attention was a banner announcing our upcoming conference that the wind had wrinkled up. Fixing it would require finding someone to help me and a tall ladder, then climbing up and down several times, and finally, putting the ladder back. I just had to keep dying to it being messed up and trust the Lord with it because I simply didn’t have enough hours the day to do everything. After two days, I looked out the front door and saw a pickup truck with a ladder in the back parked right under the sign and the owner, an able-bodied young man, standing right there with it! It didn’t register at first, but God graciously didn’t let me miss this opportunity. What would have taken me a good bit of time only took him 2 minutes at most.

Like I said in part 5 of our series, “I am constantly amazed at God’s wisdom; how He takes care of so many details in one choice, way more than we can even think of, let alone weave together so beautifully. ‘Oh, the depth of the riches, both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! Romans 11:33.” That was certainly true in this instance. I couldn’t have dreamt up that scenario, but God did. I was abiding in Christ while doing what I could do and trusting Him with what I could not, and He certainly “made my path straight,” and the banner as well!
