A plane crashed at the Aspen Airport, also known as the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport, on Sunday afternoon.
“Horrible plane crash here at Aspen airport,” said witness Kevin Nealon via Twitter. “Exploded into flames as it was landing.”
Three people were aboard the plane, Thomas Wright, a dispatcher with the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, told AP. One person died, one was injured severely, and the other suffered non-serious injuries.
The injured were taken to Aspen Valley Hospital.
Nealon said fire trucks and ambulances were on the scene within minutes. The airport is now closed.
Photos and video from the scene show a fire truck spraying down the wreckage, and smoke billowing from the plane.
