2 Corinthians 4:16-18 ESV
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. [17] For this light momentary affliction is preparing for and in us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, [18] as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
Behind the veil in the secret place it is always filled with an eternal perspective. I believe that the main reason it is important that we cultivate a rhythm of daily prayer, even if it’s just for a few moments, is because, in the secret place, the Lord adjusts our seeing and thinking to be in harmony with the mind of Christ. We live in a fallen world, and it is so easy in the midst of affliction to only see things through the eyes of loss, and loss always feels so permanent and unredeemable. As the Body of Christ, Jesus has clothed himself with our humanity; therefore, even though we are in this world, we are not of this world. We are also seated in Christ in the heavenly places. Every Christian is in union with Christ (that’s what makes them Christian); therefore, we are also in union with His mind, and his mind always views reality from heaven’s eternal perspective. I find that in the secret place of prayer where there are no distractions, it is easier for me to have my spiritual lenses cleansed by the voice of the Holy Spirit to see the eternal Weight of Glory being cultivated in the vortex of affliction and that vision causes me to rejoice and not loose heart. Eternity’s calculation of things is much different than what our physical eyes and minds can calculate. In the secret place where the sound chamber is the voice of the Lord coming from the mind of Christ, I’m always re-awakened to my union with Christ that causes me to see as the angels see, and what they see is that even when there are clouds and thick darkness He reigns, and glory is accumulating!!
