My true North is always Jesus, and every time I step behind the veil into the secret place, the Holy Spirit always re-orients me or deepens my orientation to Jesus. He is the Spirit of truth, and He always bears witness of Jesus – John 15:26. Jesus is the truth and the Holy Spirit guides us into all that’s true about Jesus – John 16:13. Jesus is my walk with God. He is my spirituality – John 17:19. Because He is our spirituality, we get to participate in His disposition about everything, and His disposition always carries an air of freedom. I can always tell when I’ve gotten disoriented because I sense tiny imprisonments happening in my emotions. Left to stew, those tiny imprisonments can grow exponentially. Imprisonments like anxiety, confusion, and seeping despair are all part of the general sense of spiritual disorientation. Circumstances and people outside of yourself can be the instrument of spiritual disorientation, but the reality is circumstances, and the moods, attitudes, and words of others aren’t the cause. The cause is always losing sight of our true North and taking burdens upon ourselves that Jesus never intended us to carry. Jesus came to save us from ourselves and all the sins that come as the consequence of practicing the presence of the fallen false self. I find that in my prayer life, I spend more time beholding and listening to the one who is the TRUTH than I spend time talking. The more I abide in and dwell (contemplate) on Jesus, the more I find that when it’s my time to talk to the Father, I am doing so in Jesus’s name and not mine. The next time you find yourself disoriented and imprisoned by unhealthy thoughts and emotions, simply stop and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you back into all the TRUTH that Jesus is in relation to what’s troubling you, because no matter what’s going on it doesn’t change the truth about who Jesus is, and who He is in you. The Holy Spirit will be a faithful guide and you will quickly discover the TRUTH, setting you free once again as you sink into Jesus resting in Him who is your life.
