John 8:31-32 ESV
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, [32] and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 6:63,67-68 NASB95
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. [67] So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” [68] Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life. The Christian life is lived by faith, and faith comes from hearing the word of Christ. As Christians, the TRUTH is in us because Christ, who is the TRUTH, abides in us by the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples.” He then added, “and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. The passages in John 6 that are not listed above tell us that Jesus’s words carry life, not just any kind of life, but the quality of eternal life. Whenever Jesus speaks a word to you – in you – it is truth, and it carries a sense of life and true freedom. This is how we can tell the difference between the voice of the enemy and the voice of Jesus. Jesus always speaks truth – that is His nature; thus it is our nature to hear His voice – and the truth will always feel like life and freedom, even if it’s a word of correction. If you’re listening to hear a word from Jesus about needed direction, you will know what’s true about what you should do because it will feel in your inner man like life and freedom. This is also true when we contemplate thoughts about other people. If what we are thinking is not life-giving and full of freedom then it’s not God. The mind of Christ in us concerning others, that is, the truth revealed in us about others, will make us feel free from the yuck of dark thoughts. You will feel the life of Jesus and His freedom to love rise up in you. The TRUTH will always bring life and freedom, and if it doesn’t, then you know that you are hearing LIES that bring darkness and internal restriction.
