Jesus didn’t come to rescue us from something (though He did that), but He came to bring us into something. He came to bring us into His life experience. I know that almost sounds ridiculous, but the gospel is ridiculously good.
Deuteronomy 6:23 NASB95
He brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers.’
God brought them out of Egypt, not so they would live and die in the wilderness. He brought them out to bring them in. Canaan was the land of promise-the land of milk and honey. It was to be a place of spiritual rest, victory and fruitfulness under the shadow of God’s presence. Deuteronomy 11:7 said that Canaan would be a place where the people of God would “rejoice in all your undertakings in which the Lord your God has blessed you.” Canaan was a type of life in Christ. Yes, He and all He has, including His NEARNESS with the Father, is our inheritance. Jesus is the land of milk and honey.
Jesus “came” that we might have life and have it more abundantly. The Father didn’t send His Son to rescue us from hell. He sent His Son to bring into His very life. “I am crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I (the fallen independent self) who lives, but Christ who lives in me; and the life WHICH I NOW LIVE in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God who loves me and gave Himself for me.” Gal. 2:20. What an amazing rescue! I still live in this human body, and every day I deal with human realities and situations, but I get to face all those in union with Christ. His life experience being lived out through all my experiences of life is the reality of the new creation, and the newness of life we have been brought into. This is the simple Gospel that is intended to be the truth about every Christian, no matter who you are, what you’ve been, or what you’ve done. Jesus truly came to make all things new.
