John 5:19-20 NASB95
Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner. [20] For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing; and the Father will show Him greater works than these, so that you will marvel.
I believe that every true Christian would say that the first and primary calling on every believer’s life is Christ likeness. When I say Christ likeness I mean the real deal authentic manifestation of the life of Christ Himself. I’m not talking about an imitation of Christ where you are trying your best to live like Him. Instead, I’m talking about a true revealing through your humanity of the risen life of Jesus. In John 5:20 Jesus told the Jews who were in an uproar over His actions that the life He was going to be living before them would cause them the marvel . The same Jesus whose life would cause them to marvel is who, now risen from the dead, lives in us. In light of that fact, the life that we live before those we encounter should cause them to marvel. Our supernatural lifestyle of signs and wonders should cause them to marvel. Our supernatural lifestyle of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control in all situations should cause them to marvel. It is easy in a crowd to wear spiritual veils while acting spiritual in front of them. Wouldn’t it be wonderful, instead of living in pretense, with unveiled face to genuinely reveal the actions, and attitude of Jesus in every circumstance and to every person, especially towards those who consider themselves enemies? As a person in union with Christ the emotions, mindset, and activity of Jesus lived out through you should cause you to marvel at the life you are living from Christ, and should cause other people to marvel because of the encounter they are having with Him because they’ve been near you.
