For it was the Father’s good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him. Colossians 1:19
The true acid test as to whether or not you are an authentic Christian is not your good works, or any sacrament; instead, the true acid test is whether or not Jesus Christ lives in you. “Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you – unless indeed you fail the test?” – 2 Corinthians 13:5.
Jesus living in you is what makes you a Christian, and if you are Christian, then the gift of spiritual fullness is already yours. That verse in Colossians 1:19 says that all the fullness of dwells in Christ, and if Christ is in you, than all the fullness of Christ dwells in you. You don’t have to strive to get fullness. You only have to surrender to the fullness of Christ that is already yours, and has been yours from the moment you were born again. Think about that; everything that Jesus is, and everything that Jesus has is yours, and has been yours as a free gift. When you received Christ, you received His fullness. There are so many well-meaning admonitions from Christian teachers and preachers to go after “fullness,” and I agree in the sense that we want to go after experiencing all that is already ours. The problem I have with the admonition to go after “fullness” is that in many people, that admonition prompts them to go through all kinds of spiritual gyrations to achieve “the more,” when all along “the all” of Christ has been in them. Colossians 3:11 says, “Christ is all, and in all.” It can’t get any clearer than that, and it should cause you to be greatly encouraged. You don’t have to change to get “fullness” because you already have Him and His fullness. Simply surrender to by faith, take what’s yours, and the fullness of Christ will begin to manifest in your life, and that will definitely change you.
