This “way” of life that is the life of Jesus lived through us is the most amazing adventure. It is walked out in the everyday nitty-gritty details of life in this fallen world, and yet it is experienced in the sense realm of the heavenly places where we are seated in Christ. It is sort of a strange truth that we are walking in the Spirit from a seated position. Think about it: every situation that we step into and every temptation that we face is from a resting place of victory in Christ. It’s kind of like Peter walking on water; what threatened to be over his head was already under the feet of Jesus. You and I don’t face anything in this world that Jesus hasn’t already overcome. We simply get to walk in faith experiencing in the here and now what Christ has already done. When tempted to sin, we joyfully rest, thanking Him for His “already” victory over that sin in His finished work. In every circumstance, we restfully rejoice in a God-given victory before the outcome is ever seen, for He always leads us in His triumph in Christ! No wonder the Christian life is described with phrases like “more than conquerors; joy unspeakable, full of glory,” and having a “peace that passes all comprehension.” This “way” of life is experienced in this world, but it certainly is not of this world.
