Have you ever said things like, “I just can’t take it anymore,” or “I just can’t do it (some assignment in life) anymore? Jesus said, “Apart from Me, you can do nothing,” and Paul said, “I can do all things in Christ who (continually) strengthens me.” Because of our union with Christ, we never have to live by the “I can’t’s.” “Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God.” – 2 Corinthians 3:5. “But we have this treasure (the indwelling life of Christ) in earthen vessels, that the surpassing greatness of the power (literally: “ability”) may be of God and not from ourselves.” Sometimes, Jesus says in us (to us) that we are not supposed to do certain things anymore, but He never says, “I just can’t take it anymore.” If you can’t take it anymore, or just can’t do it anymore maybe it’s because you’ve been trying to do it, instead of sinking into Him entrusting Him to do it in you. Jesus is our adequacy and His adequacy never runs out. Jesus is our ability, and His ability never runs down. I know this may sound really unreasonable and impractical but anything God calls us to do isn’t unreasonable to Him, for everything He requires of us He is prepared to perform through us. He is our Hinds feet on high places for “He is strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord (The Hebrew word “wait” literally means for a small strand of rope to join itself to a large strong rope) will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.” – Isaiah 40:30 – 31.
