What kind of father would only bless their son or daughter if they did everything perfectly right? Jesus said to Philip in John 14:9, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, ‘Show us the Father?’
What kind of Father had Jesus revealed to his disciples over their three-and-a-half journey together? Jesus certainly did not reveal the Father as a stern perfectionist. Instead, He revealed the Father’s perfect love. Think of the woman at the well who had been married five times and was currently living with a man and how Jesus revealed the love of the Father, who knew everything about her yet offered her the gift of living water so she would never thirst again. How about the woman caught in adultery who Jesus openly did not condemn? In Luke 15, the Father is revealed as one who blesses without restraint or regret.
Ephesians 1:3 – 6 says a lot about the heart of our heavenly Father, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, so we would be holy and blameless before Him. In love, He predestined us to adoption as sons through Christ to himself, according to the kind intentions of His will, to the praise the glory of his grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.”
We were placed in Christ at the beginning, co-heirs with Jesus, fully blessed with every blessing that belongs to Jesus. This was ours the moment we were born again before we ever did anything right. It seems that our heavenly Father’s heart is to fully bless us as a free gift and then put the Holy Spirit in us to be our tutor who would lead us into all truth, teaching us how to walk as a Kings Kid in the blessings that are already ours.
