Retro One Thing 6/24/20 The search for the True Self – Part 2

Colossians 3:1-4 NASB  Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. [3] For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. [4] When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

As a Christian, your life is hidden with Christ in God; therefore, the only way to discover your true self is to understand your union with Christ. Trying to find your true identity anywhere other than in Christ is a futile and devastating journey, for you were created for much more than any sense of significance the things of this world might offer you. God wants us to celebrate life and enjoy the pleasures of the created, but you can only find your identity in the creator.

1 Timothy 6:17 AMP  As for the rich in this present world, instruct them not to be conceited and arrogant, nor to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

The true you is hidden with Christ; therefore, in verse 4, Paul says that when Christ, who is our life, is revealed, the YOU will be revealed with Him. I believe this verse is saying two connected things: first, it is saying that when Christ is revealed to us that he is our very life, then we will begin to discover the true SELF, but it is also saying that as our life is revealed in us daily (the practical living of His life in us), then we (the true redeemed SELF) will be revealed with Him in glory. Your life reveals Him, and His life manifested reveals you. You and I were created to contain and display the glory of God (His presence and His manifold nature). As Christ is revealed in us in all of life’s situations and, in the process, displays His presence and His nature, then the true person that we were created to be is revealed. Put simply, when Christ is on display in me, revealing His glory, then the TRUE ME is on display with Him in His revealed glory. Let me say it again. When Jesus and His glory are revealed in and through you, the true you is finally revealed, for you were created to contain, enjoy, and display His glory. Therefore, when Christ is revealed in and by you, you are finally being yourself.
