Retro One Thing 5/29/19 Our Weakness/His Opportunity

2 Corinthians 13:3-4 NASB  [3] since you are seeking for proof of the Christ who speaks in me, and who is not weak toward you, but mighty in you. [4] For indeed He was crucified because of weakness, yet He lives because of the power of God. For we also are weak in d Him, yet we will live with Him because of the power of God directed toward you. …

What if I were to say to you that I believe that Jesus was the weakest man who ever lived? I did not say that I believed He was a sinful man (of course, Jesus never sinned), but I do believe He was the weakest man, for He chose to NEVER do anything by His own initiative or in His own strength. In this way, He showed us, as the second Adam how to live by faith, for He was the author and the perfecter of faith. At its core, a life of faith is one of utter dependence and restful confidence in another.

John 5:30 NASB “I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”

John 14:10 NASB “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.” He was in the Father as a “weak one,” utterly dependent.

Jesus was so committed to a life of complete dependence on His Father that if the Father had not raised Him from the dead, Jesus would still be in the grave. He lived a life of complete and total surrender and absolute dependence in relationship to His Father. He was crucified because of weakness. In other words, having taken on humanity, He refused to save Himself by His own deity and surrendered to the Father’s will by going to the Cross.

In light of that, notice what it says about you and me in verse four. It says that we are also weak in Christ, yet we shall live in union with Him because of the power of God. 1 Corinthians 30 says, “by His doing you are in Christ Jesus…” God is not shocked at your weakness and inability to live the Christian life in your own strength. He is not ashamed that you are in Christ as a “weak one. It was by His doing that He placed you with all of your weaknesses into the life of Christ. He did this knowing that your weaknesses would be constant reminders to you to trust in the power of God in Christ to live the Christian life. 2 Corinthians 12:9 says that in your weaknesses, his strength is made perfect. Your weaknesses do not disqualify you from living a victorious Christian life. Instead, they are the very things that position you to allow Jesus Christ to live His life through you in the power of God. Stop kicking yourself for being weak or feeling bad for God that He is stuck with a weak one like you, for He chose you just as you are and placed you into the life of Christ, knowing that your weaknesses would be an opportunity for Him to demonstrate His glory. God does not want us to be controlled by our weaknesses, but He wants to take advantage of them to demonstrate his glory. Stop hating yourself for being so needy, and start celebrating your smallness so that you can begin to demonstrate his LARGE LIFE through you.
