Rev.4:1-5, “After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.” Immediately I was [a]in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne. And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a [b]rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones; and upon the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white garments, and golden crowns on their heads. Out from the throne come flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder. And there were seven lamps (torches) of fire burning (blazing, raging) before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God;”
I hear stories all the time of Christians, especially those in full time ministries, burning out, losing their passion. I understand fully how a lost person can come to a place of despair and hopelessness but it is so sad and unnecessary for a believer to experience that.
Trust me, I totally understand how fragile we humans are. When I gave my life to Christ years ago, I was suffering from clinical depression and anxiety. At 23, I thought my life, and any hope for happiness, was over. People talk about men experiencing mid-life crises; I was so broken that I didn’t wait for mid-life. In that dark, dark place I was encountered by the Love and Light of my life. He awakened my heart from that dead place, and set me ablaze with a living, breathing hope.
Over three decades later, I find Him still to be the Light of Life. What I have discovered over the years is that, if I will make His presence the One Thing passion and pursuit of my life, being Torched up, not Burnt out, is the reality I live in.
Verse 5 in the scriptures above tell us that in His presence, the Holy Spirit is like seven raging, blazing torches (Lamp isn’t the right word here. Lamp is far too safe a word to describe the Holy Spirit in the throne room). Every time we pray we are in the Throne Room, and as you approach the One who sits on the Throne, to worship at His footstool, The Holy Spirit LIGHTS YOU UP every time. Because of our fallen-ness, and the drain of this fallen world, the light in our soul and heart can begin to flicker, but if we get in His presence and behold His Transcendent Beauty, even for just a few moments, The Holy Spirit will Torch You Up, again and again.
