Luke 2:10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
Luke 2:11 for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Luke 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”
Glory is a word that refers to “all the infinite complexities, attributes, and character of God (His beauty) on public display.” It is the radiance of His beauty. When we glorify Him, it means, in someway we’ve display His beauty, at some level. When we give Him glory as an act of praise, as the Heavenly host did in this story, it means we openly acknowledge and honor Him in praise for His beauty that’s been displayed.
In the Nativity, His beauty is on display like no other time, except the Cross. That God would come to earth and become flesh so that we, would have a Savior who would save us eternally by His death, and daily by His risen life, so that we would no longer have to live in fear but could experience peace on fallen earth, is beyond amazing; it is Glorious. It so reveals the beauty; the splendor of our glorious God.
Glory to Him in the highest who would carry out such a mad plan of love and rescue. It all flowed from the One who is God in the highest, so that we fallen and broken people on earth might have peace and great joy in our lives instead of fear, depression, and hopelessness. Go back and read the story. See His beauty on display. And give Him glory.
