Jn 20:19, “So when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and *said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 And when He had said this, He showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and *said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
Matt. 11:12, “ From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.”
Acts 2:2, “ When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.”
Rev.15:2 , “And I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who had been victorious over the beast and his image and the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, holding harps of God.”
Jesus breathed on the disciples and the Holy Spirit released the peace of Christ in them; but at Pentecost the Holy Spirit released a fiery violence in them. Notice the description of the Dove in Acts; “violent rushing wind,” and “fire.” Not the violence of anger, but the holy violent passion of the life and love of God shed abroad in our hearts, that causes us to burn for Him and to burn for others. When the Holy Spirit manifests in us the life of Christ it releases a violent wind and fire that wrecks, and rearranges everything in us and about us. Jesus in us definitely puts our minds at peace, but also sets our hearts on fire. We are called to release that Holy violence to a lost and dying world, destroying the works of the devil. Only those resting in peace and reckless with passion can be the “Overcomers” and daring “Rescuers” the whole world is groaning for. Water and fire are two of the symbols of the Holy Spirit, and I believe Heavens reality is a great description of the Holy Spirits work on earth in the life the “New Creation.” We are to be like a Sea of Glass (a place of deep peace well below any storms on the surface) mixed with Fire.
