Luke 2:16 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger.
Luke 2:17 When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.
Luke 2:18 And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.
Luke 2:19 But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.

Is. 66:2 “For My hand made all these things,
Thus all these things came into being,” declares the LORD.
“But to this one I will look,
To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.

All those who heard what the shepherds reported about what the angels told them, wondered and marveled at the word of The Lord, but Mary’s response was different. Verse 19 says that Mary treasured all these things, and she pondered them in her heart. That word “ponder” means to “throw things together, to add things up.” Mary wanted to know what God was saying. No wonder God chose this young girl to carry His purposes. She didn’t just hear God with wonder, she treasured the word of The Lord. In Isaiah 66 we are told that God is looking for people who treasure His word. God found in Mary someone who treated His words as priceless treasures to be guarded and pondered over and responded, so they can be responded to.

One of my constant prayers is that I will never be casual about His words to me, whether they come to me from scripture during my time alone with Him, or they come by angels, or prophecy. I want to be so awakened to His heart that I will always treasure His voice. I believe that God reveals His deepest heart desires and delights to those who TREASURE His words.
