God does not desire for us to just “make it” through our day, just getting by and surviving; He wants us to look back at our day and to be able to say that we “reigned”all day long.
(Rom.5:17 “For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”
How do we “reign” instead of just squeaking by? It is “through the One Christ Jesus.” It is through Christ and Christ alone that we “reign” in life and in all the practical days that make up our life. Depression should not rule your day; fear should not rule; anger should not rule; and things like jealousy, resentment, pride, self-pity, self rejection, lust, and worry should not rule even one day. Jesus is Lord, and thus He reigns over all things.
That glorious verse in 2 Cor. 9:8, “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;” uses the word “abundance.” That Word would be better translated “superabundance,” or even better, “surrounding abundance.” That destroys the idea that it is good enough for Christians to just get by or barely make it on a daily basis. Too many Christians are content with surviving when God has equipped us with the surrounding abundance of the all sufficiency of an indwelling Christ to THRIVE, no matter what life throws at us. We are called to REIGN in life, not be “DRAINED” by life.
