John 15:5, “I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.”
Rom. 11:16, “If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.”
As a branch, we are part of the Vine. The branch and the Vine are in a vital, vibrant, and vivid union with each other. Vital, because it is essential; Vibrant because it is living, lively, dynamic, and animated, vivid, because it is manifested, in fruit bearing. All that belongs to the vine, belongs to the branch. Ephesians 1:23 says, “… The Church which is the fullness of Him, Who is filling all, and is in all.”
The fullness of the vine (Jesus) is constantly filling each branch (The Believer). In light of this glorious truth, that we are constantly being filled with His fullness, then we are being filled with the fullness of His holiness; therefore we were not struggling to get holiness, we are simply called to abide (remain) in the holiness of Jesus that is constantly flowing in us.
Of course, this abiding results in the fruit bearing of a (His) life through us.
Here is a quote from the great missionary Hudson Taylor, “Let us not then want to get anything out of Him, but rejoice in being ourselves in Him — one with Him, and, consequently, with all His fullness. Not seeking for faith to bring holiness, but rejoicing in the fact of perfect holiness in Christ, let us realize that — inseparably one with Him — this holiness is ours, and accepting the fact, find it so indeed.”
Truly, if the root (Jesus) is holy the branches are also.
