John 15:14 “You are My friends if you do what I command you.
John 15:15 “No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
As I mentioned previously, Jesus was totally confident that The Father would disclose to Him His will in every situation, because He knew The Father loved Him. We often make discovering God’s will something difficult and complicated, and yet it’s just a matter of God’s love. I love my two sons, and as they grew up looking to me for direction, I never made them guess. I love them and I always wanted them to know what my will was. It would have been cruel for me to make my will hidden or vague, and then expect them to be obedient. That’s not how love works. Love always wants the best for those who are the objects of your love. As a matter of fact, I wanted it to be as simple and as clear as I possibly could for my sons to know what I wanted.
John 15:9 “Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.” As much as I love my boys, Jesus loves us infinitely more. He longs to let us know what He is saying, and doing, so that we can participate in His will. The only thing that would have kept my sons from knowing clearly the desires of my heart would be if they had rebellious hearts. There would have been no point for me to give them intimate details to follow if they constantly refused to follow general directions. Friends are trusted with the most intimate information, and Jesus said if you display an obedient heart and life then you prove to be His friends.
Love’s obedience opens the eyes and ears of our hearts to see and hear the most intimate and specific details of His heart’s desires in every circumstance.
