Mark 15:37 And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last. 38 And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 When the centurion, who was standing right in front of Him, saw the way He breathed His last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son of God!”
Luke 23:47 Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, “Certainly this man was innocent.”
This is a simple follow up on our devotional from Monday where I said: Jesus carries the ultimate faith testimony because he was the perfected of faith, and his greatest expression of faith was as he hung on the Cross. As the Son of Man, instead of complaining, or spewing out bitterness, or being crippled by fear, he endured, and despised the shame, fixing his eyes on the joy set before him. The joy set before him was the purposes of the father being accomplished through his crucifixion burial, and resurrection. His faith had a foundation, and that foundation was Psalm 40:8, which says “I delight to do Thy will oh my God,” and Psalm 31:5 which says, “Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have ransomed me, O LORD, God of faithfulness.” On the cross, Jesus, being fully yielded to his Father’s will, had absolute faith that God’s purposes, not the Devil’s, was being accomplished, because God is faithful, and He always wins.
Notice what it says in the Mark passage. The Holy Spirit wants us to know that the centurion was “standing right in front of Jesus,” and when he saw the Way that Jesus breathed his last, he began praising God, and then made his confession that Jesus was innocent, and that He was the son of God. People are watching us as we take up our cross and follow Jesus. The testimony of hope and joyful surrender win the hard wood of the cross impacts our lives is able to transform those around us. The whole world complains, murmurs, and embraces resentment and bitterness, when life is hard; but one of the great signs and wonders of our supernatural life that we are able to release to those around us, is our own transformation, manifested by joy and confidence in the purposes, and victory of Christ, in the midst of the fiercest trials.
