1 Corinthians 2:7 NASB but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory;
Instead of the word wisdom, you could insert the word “plan.” The plan that God had, to undo the consequences of the Fall of man, is the wisdom that Paul is talking about here, and Paul says that this plan was worked out, or predestined before the ages, but it stayed a mystery until Christ came to the earth. That plan, or that wisdom, was the Cross and the finished work of Christ accomplished at the Cross. At Calvary, man’s sin was paid for, and sinful man was crucified with Christ and buried, and on the 3rd day a new creation in emerged in His resurrection. This was the genius of the wisdom of God. The thing that fascinates me about 1 Corinthians 2:7 is that the Holy Spirit said through Paul, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages was “to our glory.” That is a mind blower to me, because I thought that everything was supposed to be about God’s glory only, and yet we are told here, that the Cross was to our glory. Of course, the Cross brought glory to God, but it amazes me that the Holy Spirit uses the phrase “to our glory” to explain the purpose of the Cross.
Let me show you an awesome verse from Song of Solomon 6:12, “Before I was aware, my soul set me over the chariots of my noble people.” The Lord refers to his people as his noble people here. That phrase “My noble people” comes from a compound Hebrew word “Ammi–nadib.” Ammi means “my people,” and nadib means “princely.” God created us to be nobility with a princely calling and destiny. We were created to live in the atmosphere of the glory of God. We were created to fellowship with the God of glory, and to contain His presence, and to manifest His likeness (glory). No other creature was created with this calling and this destiny. Because of Adam and Eve’s choice, sin entered into the world, and the law of sin entered in to mankind, and that which was created for nobility, was infected by this evil virus called sin, and we who are princely became monstrous. The amazing thing about the heart of God is that he did not hate the monster that we had become, but instead he fiercely loved the monster, and pursued the monsters rescue until the monster could be changed to once again be the noble, and princely masterpiece that He created. All this was accomplished at the Cross in the person of Christ, because we were joined with him at the there, and the monster and the evil virus was crucified and buried, and we were raised up, born again in union with Christ, who is now our very life; and seated in the heavenly places with him, we once again are his princely people, living in the atmosphere of glory.
Colossians 1:27 says, “to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory,” and in Colossians 3:3 – 4 the Holy Spirit tells us through the pen of Paul, “For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is manifested, then you will also be manifested with him in glory.”
We were created as nobility; a princely people, and after the fall, God began to unfold his plan that he had already predestined before the ages, to rescue us and to restore us to the place of glory we were created to live in. This is the gospel. This is the good news, and this is the truth about who you are in Christ. No matter how much the enemy tries to tell you that you are still just the monster enslaved to sin; the truth is that you are noble; you are God’s princely person, seated in the heavenly places, to participate in, and manifest His glory
