Luke 4:13 When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.
2Cor. 12:9 And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
Because Jesus was at the end a 40 day fast He was vulnerable physically, therefore the Devil chose that opportune time to attack Him. The Devil always pours it on during our most vulnerable times. He strategically comes at us in times of physical and emotional pain, weariness, disappointment, even boredom, and after mountain top victories when we’ve let our guard down. The Devil left Jesus, waiting for another opportune time. Each of us have areas in our lives, or environments we find ourselves in, where we are especially vulnerable. Following Christ’s example of victory in His vulnerable moment can help us. The 2 Cor. Scripture tells us that we can know His supernatural power manifested in our weaknesses instead of repeated failure.
Luke 4:1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness.
Notice what it says about Christ has He goes into the wilderness of temptation. For one, He was full of The Holy Spirit. The language there is that He was always full of The Holy Spirit and that He was constantly being led by The Spirit. In other words Jesus, in an attitude of faith and total surrender, was constantly abiding in and depending on the Father’s presence in Him and was thus being perpetually led. He was practicing the presence of His Father. You see, under attack we often find ourselves scrambling back to a deep place in His presence, instead, we have to already be there and always stay in that place, so that in those vulnerable times we are prepared.
We have to remember that in this world of spiritual war, we can’t afford to take a day or even an hour off. We are called to constantly abide in Him and, if we do, we will find that in our weaknesses, (our vulnerabilities) we’ve learned to draw deep from His overcoming power instead of failing once again. That is, in our vulnerable moments instead of falling, His strength, His victory, is made perfect.
