Rev. 2:4 ‘But I have this against you, that you have left your first love.
Rev. 2:5 ‘Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you, and will remove your lampstand out of its place — unless you repent.
To live a First Commandment life, you must be intentional not just emotional. You might be saying, “But I thought a First Commandment life was about holy romance.” It is for sure, but to live in an environment of holy romance, your pursuit of the Lover of your soul must be intentional. You must arrange your life to cultivate a burning heart for God. You must choose to linger in His presence so that He can constantly awaken your heart to First Love.
Verse 5 refers to “the deeds you did at first.” The actual translation should be “First Deeds.” A heart continually inflamed with First Love must intentionally commit to the First Deeds that allows itself to remain delighted in the Lord. Love must be nurtured and I can assure you that the enemies of a First Commandment life will do everything to intercept you from realizing your quest. That’s why it must be more than a desire; it must an actively charted pursuit.
Prov. 13:4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,
But the soul of the diligent is made fat.
Diligence must be added to desire if your dream is to be realized. I can assure you that the more He imprisons your heart to His, the more delightful your intentions become. There eventually comes a time when the temptation to sit at His footstool will become immensely stronger than the temptation to put it off. It’s awesome to experience His presence as the most powerful temptation in your life.
