Psalm 36:8-9 says, “They drink their fill of the abundance of Thy house; and Thou dost give them to drink of the river of Thy pleasures (delights). For with Thee is the fountain of life; in Thy light we see light.”
The Lord wants us to come into His presence as a way of life to get filled again and again with the abundance of His pleasures and delights. You see, better is one day in His courts, just one day in His house, than a thousand elsewhere. Can you imagine how deep and wide the river of the pleasures of His presence is? In that river of living water He fills us with His limitless delights that overwhelms us with pleasure. Surely He is the fountain of life that we can draw from whenever we are thirsty.
One of the powerful consequences of being filled with the delights and pleasures of His presence is that everything takes on a new light. In His light, we see light. Having been inebriated at the river of His pleasures, nothing looks the same; nothing feels the same. Drinking in His beauty is our strong tower. Things look different from a tower’s perspective. It’s hard to be consumed with the discouragement and fear of a fallen world when your filled. Yes, in His presence is fullness of joy, and at His right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
