Rev 4:6, and before the throne there was something like a sea of glass, like crystal; and in the center and around the throne, four living creatures full of eyes in front and behind.
Rev 15:2 And I saw something like a sea of glass mixed with fire, and those who had been victorious over the beast and his image and the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, holding harps of God.
This sea of glass mixed with fire that surrounds the throne is, I believe an incarnational manifestation of the impassioned love of God. This is the throne room platform that all stand on and in as they worship the enthroned Lord. Fire here, as it does in many other verses throughout the bible, refers to the love of God that is full of zeal and passion for us.
Eternity is going to be so amazing as we stand on and in the endless sea of His love worshiping Him. It’s important though for us to realize that this experience of John’s is not after he died and went to Heaven, but simply while he was at prayer still in his earthly body. I’ve heard many people talk about having throne room experiences with the Lord, and I celebrate that. I actually had that happen in my life a number of times for a season when the prophetic was released in my life at a more extravagant level; but as the years have passed by I’ve come to realize that every time a believer prays, even the simplest prayers, it is a throne room encounter with God happening on the emerald sea of glass mixed with fire. You see the Christian life is lived beyond the veil in the daily routine and battle of this fallen world; but the Christian life is nurtured and strengthened behind the veil in the place of prayer and worship before the throne of God. We are called to live a life of fearless faith and lovesick obedience beyond the veil, but it is behind the veil, standing on and in His fiery sea, where love grows and gives birth to faith; for faith works through love; and perfect live casts out fear.
