Rom. 5:10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
The saving work of Jesus doesn’t end when we invite Him to come live in our hearts. It simply begins at that moment. Jesus’ death on the Cross secures our forgiveness and guarantees us a place in a Heaven one day, but risen from the dead, His life in us saves us from ourselves everyday. His death for me cleanses me from sins penalty. His risen life in me saves me daily from sins power. His death changes my destiny. His life in me changes my behavior. Look at these words from the old hymn “Rock of Ages.”
“Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee; Let the water and the blood, From Thy riven side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure, Cleanse me from its guilt and power.”
A double cure from condemnation, by His death, and slavery to sin, by His life. Just as you, by faith, appropriated His death for you, that you might become a Christian; moment by moment, by faith, appropriate His life in you, that you might be the Christian you’ve become.
