Luke 9:34 While he was saying this, a cloud formed and began to overshadow them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
9:37 On the next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met Him.
Peter, James, and John had just spent time on the mountain and witnessed the Transfiguration of our Lord. Not only did they witness, they actually entered into the cloud of the glory of the Lord. Peter had offered to build three tabernacles for the Lord, and Elijah, and Moses to dwell in. Like any of us, Peter wanted to stay in that place on the mountain where he encountered the glory, and saw such amazing things. Yet, God didn’t call us to just live in the glory; He called us to carry the glory, into the world. The disciples had to come off of the mountain and go back down into the valley where the war continues. This was for their sakes as well as for the sake of others. You see, WHAT IS REVEALED TO US ON THE MOUNTAIN IS REALIZED IN US IN THE VALLEY. It’s in the the valley of blood and guts real life in this fallen world that revelation becomes personal realization. When we encounter God, and He imparts something new to us, we believe in our hearts; but in the valley of testing we complete faith by walking it out, confessing with our mouth what we believe in our heart. It is in the battle that revelation becomes reality in us, and is released through us, influencing those around us. Therefore don’t be surprised at the fiery ordeal that you are going through. Christians were called people of The Way, and mountain top encounters followed by LIFE in the valley are part of The Way. Remember, what is revealed to you on the mountain is realized in you, and released through you, in the valley.
