Galatians 2:20 NASB ”I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”
The paragraph below is what I believe to be an accurate commentary or amplified translation of the Galatians 2:20 verse quoted above. Under the verse are simply some insights that I believe are helpful.
I was crucified with Christ in His crucifixion, and I live every day with the fresh reality of that, and therefore it is no longer the old me, the one who was under judgment, and was a slave to sin, who lives, but Christ Himself has joined Himself to me in union with His victorious resurrection life and is actively alive and continually living triumphantly in me each moment; and the life which I am now living in my humanity, and in the circumstances, and relationships that make up my life, I continually resting in the faith of the son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me, that He might come and live inside of me and be Himself in me, living His victorious life in and through me moment by moment, in every situation and temptation.
I don’t have to ask Him to live His life through me, because He already is, and has been from the moment I was saved. I only learn to stay out of His way and rest in His faith for victory.
We can’t do anything to get Him to live His life through us, because He already is. We can only restrict His life from being manifested through us by unbelief. The branch does not have to do anything to get the life of the vine to flow into it. The branch simply rests in the vine, acknowledging and celebrating the life of the vine that is pulsating through it, manifested by fruit-bearing.
