You can live the Christian life by “do’s and don’ts” or by “discovery.” There are rights and wrongs that never change, but how to avoid the wrongs and do the right things is one of the most important truths you’ll ever learn in your walk with God. The “elementary principle of the world” is to live under law. The law says “do this and don’t do that to live,” but the gospel of grace says “LIVE” so that you can do this and not do that.
Paul tells us in Colossians 2 that we died to the elementary principles of this world and that we have been resurrected with Christ in union with His life. As a matter of fact, Colossians 3 says that our new life is hidden with Christ in God, and therefore “Christ is our life.” The way to holiness isn’t about do’s and don’ts but about discovering all you are “in Christ” and living in dependent intimacy with Him. The continual divine inflow will accomplish a holy, and powerful divine outflow. Paul said, “hold fast to the HEAD and grow a growth that is from God.”
Col. 2:18 Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize…,19 and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God.
