Psa. 68:13 When you lie down among the sheepfolds,
You are like the wings of a dove covered with silver,
And its pinions with glistening gold.
Psa. 68:14 When the Almighty scattered the kings there,
It was snowing in Zalmon.
The word sheepfolds in verse 13 is better translated as “ash heaps.” Ashes, or ash heaps, in Scripture always speak of the posture of repentance. A continual attitude of repentance is how we sustain a heart of surrender. It seems at times, as we fall down broken before Him, that we are surrounded and covered by the ashes of our imperfect love for Him. Even though all we may be able to see are the ashes of our failure, He sees, in the midst of those ashes, something very beautiful to Him. He sees something like the wings of a dove covered with silver and pinions with glistening gold. He sees our repentance as proof that we care and that we long to love him better. He sees a work of the Holy Spirit happening in us because we’ve chosen to seal our hearts for love, even though our love for Him is still weak and immature.
It is important that we understand that in the midst of every new expression of brokenness and repentance the devil will be there to accuse us, trying to make us feel shame and guilt, but God is there celebrating because He sees something extraordinarily beautiful. You see a loser; He sees a Lover.
