John 3:31 “The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He bears witness to what he has seen and heard…
John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again (literally, “born from above”) he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
You and I were born from above, therefore our identity should flow from that reality. Every day all of us bear witness of what we’ve seen and heard about the truth. The truth about circumstances, or the people around us, or, especially, about ourselves. As a matter of fact, what we believe about ourselves, and therefore bear witness of what we believe about ourselves, will govern everything else we bear witness of in life. Here is the truth about you as a Christian. YOU ARE IN CHRIST!!! That is the truth about you; and therefore the story of His resurrection is the story of your resurrection.
The person you once were; that is the earthling, was crucified and buried in Christ. Having been crucified with Him, and buried with Him, you have also been raised up with Him, and seated in the heavenly places with Him in union with His very life. You are still housed in an earth suit; but you are now In Christ and therefore in union with Christ, a pure bred citizen of Heaven.
Twice in John 3:31, the Holy Spirit tells us that Jesus, coming from above, was above all. Because you and I are born from above and are now in Christ, we too are above all. That is the simple truth about us and our actual position and situation in this fallen world. It’s time for those who are in Christ to talk and walk like victors and not victims. At the Cross, Jesus “for the joy set before Him endured the Cross, despising the shame.” How was that possible? Wasn’t the pain real? Wasn’t the horror of all that was going on around Him real? Of course it was, but victorious living, living the life of an overcomer, isn’t pain-free, or battle free, but it is despair, fear, anger, resentment, unforgiveness, and depression free. Because He was from above, He lived above all that was going on around Him at the Cross, and He bore witness of what He, as citizen of Heaven, saw and heard from Heavens perspective. Faith is more than an act, it is a perspective that causes you to live where you are already positioned; “ABOVE ALL.” No matter what else is going on around you, your situation is that you are In Christ.
