1 Kings 17:8-16 Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, “Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink.” As she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand.” But she said, “As the LORD your God lives, I have no bread, only a handful of flour in the bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering a few sticks that I may go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.” Then Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go, do as you have said, but make me a little bread cake from it first and bring it out to me, and afterward you may make one for yourself and for your son. “For thus says the LORD God of Israel, ‘The bowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oil be empty, until the day that the LORD sends rain on the face of the earth.’” So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and he and her household ate for many days. The bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil become empty, according to the word of the LORD which He spoke through Elijah.
As the brook dried up, the Lord instructed Elijah to go to Zarephath, for He had commanded a widow to provide for him there. Interesting thing is that the woman sure didn’t know that God had commanded her to provide for Elijah. When the Lord tells us what to do, we need to just go by faith, knowing that he has commanded all kinds of things in the spirit in preparation for our coming. The environment or the people awaiting our arrival may not know that they have been commanded to nurture our destiny, but they will come in line and cooperate with the will of God. He has commanded it.
I’m sure Elijah expected to find a rich widow. Instead, he found a destitute woman who was prepared to make her last meal, and then she and her son would wait to die. Isn’t that just like the Lord, who always has us in the School of Faith. Isn’t it encouraging to know that when the Lord directs you to do something that He has prepared everything by command for you, so that you can succeed in what He has called you to do.
Often when you arrive, everything in the natural looks and feels like a shocking disaster. Don’t let that throw you. He has commanded the provision and you will see the situation surrender to His command and bring forth your provision. You just have to keep walking in faith regardless of what it looks like, and you will see the reign of the Lord manifested.
Have a great day knowing that in everything you are called to do, God has already commanded the provision that is awaiting your arrival.
